‘This is a book of doors. This is a book of corridors. This is a switchboard’ over and over whispers into our ears the narrator of Bobbi Cameron’s film opening the programme. And just like that, the moving-image séance begins.
In films that follow, directors set their gaze upon possessions – be it archives, landscapes, houses, bodies or data – framing them as containers for ghostly presences that hold the power to possess us in return. Here, in the gap between the images, cinema becomes a device ‘for passing through, for conjuring dimensions, for the first words of a dreamworld‘.
The attending filmmakers will join us for a Q&A following the screening.
Contains depictions of nudity and violence; discussions of war, transphobia and sex; and flickering images.
