'for the first words of a dreamworld' is an experimental 16mm film from artist Bobbi Cameron. The film traces the dissolving boundaries between memory, spirit, and time. Rooted in intimate conversations with the artist’s grandfather during his experience of dementia, the film parallels this altered state of perception with the artist’s inherited Celtic shamanic practice —where presence moves through spirals, circles, and repetition. Drawing on her background in performance and embodied ritual, Cameron works with movement artist Aniela Piasecka, cinematographer Margaret Salmon, composer Richy Carey, and shamanic practitioner Ruth McCauley to summon a choreographic language of intergenerational dialogue and interdimensional listening. Field recordings, gesture, and layered sound create a ritual space where the body becomes a transmitter—of memory, of grief, of love. Commissioned for Glasgow International Festival 2024, the film unfolds as an offering: a sensorial witnessing of what it means to be in many places, times, and forms at once.
