LSFF presents the latest film from director Ngozi Onwurah followed by the filmmaker in conversation. Neighbourhood Alert is inspired by a true story that tells of a Black mother that is forced to take an extraordinary action in order to ensure the safety of her teenage son. It investigates and discusses the inherent racism that pervades across Middle America. The film stars Contance Ejuma (Black Panther, Ben and Ara).

Ngozi is a vital cinematic voice of the Black diaspora. This British-Nigerian filmmaker has forged an eclectic cinematic vocabulary that spans fiction, documentary, formal experimentation and bold political commentary. She originally trained at St Martins School of Art and The National Film and TV School and her subsequent short films have won multiple awards and her TV work is highly regarded. Her groundbreaking first feature film, Welcome II The Terrordome (1995), was the first feature directed by a Black woman to be cinematically released in the UK.

Ngozi will be in conversation with academic and writer Dr Clive Nwonka (Black Boys: The Aesthetics of British Urban Film).
