NEW SHORTS: Root Thy Native Oak
AUNTIE EMPIRE, dir.
After a punishing 2020 on our small island, these incisive short works take to task the British establishment.
Through satire and documentary, the structural failings and faulty foundations of Great Britain are thrown into sharp focus - from colonial legacies in slow decay, embodied by a gory send up of the Queen’s Speech, to the tectonics of class and capitalism as crowd simulation software recreates a pre-tragedy Hillsborough Stadium.
New observational documentary from Carol Salter (Almost Heaven) puts face to the humanity and strain on an austerity-depleted food bank, whilst short experimental sketches grapple with microaggressions on Instagram and notions of motherland.
