The line between being in front of the camera and behind the camera is blurred in this retrospective of short films. Both Anna Maguire and Madeleine Sims-Fewer are working actors based between Toronto and London. Maguire's career began as a child in Saving Private Ryan and playing a young Drew Barrymore in Ever After, both in 1998, before writing and directing her own projects from her early twenties.
Sims-Fewer had been acting in short films since 2007 before her and directing partner Dusty Mancinelli began collaborating on short films in which Sims-Fewer largely starred in, which lead to their first feature, Violation in 2020, also co-starring Maguire. This is a chance to see a selection of their short films and to delve into the creative process of actors who direct and directors who act.
The filmmakers will be in conversation with Séan McGovern following the screening.
Your Mother And I
Johnna's Dad changed the world. Or so he says. Whilst Johnna and her dad are talking, they can't seem to connect, each growing more and more frustrated with one another, revolving around one another in their own orbits. Based on the short story by Dave Eggers, and starring Don McKellar.
